The notorious swordsmen of New Orleans--charming by day, dangerous at night...
After years or waiting, watching and honing his skill with a sword, Kerr Wallace is ready; Rouillard, the murderous lowlife he's sworn to kill, has been located in Mexico. All Kerr has to do is get himself hired as escort for the man's bride-to-be as she travels to meet her groom. The lady doesn't care for his company, but no matter. He'll see her to her wedding or die trying.
Sonia Bonneval despises the big, overbearing Kentuckian, fearing he'll make it impossible to avoid the dreaded marriage her father has arranged. Escape is all she dreams about, and she'll do anything to achieve it. Failing that, she'll make Kerr Wallace wish he'd never heard her name.
Quarreling, sparring, the two make life miserable for each other as they take ship to Mexico. That's until war is declared and their vessel is blown out of the water. Then the two must join forces in order to survive--and discover which is greater, love or vengeance.

I love this series, in fact, I love all all of Ms Blake's Louisiana Historical novels.. .I have all her historical novels in both paperback as well as on my Kindle. By reading them I have learned much more of the history of this state. My mother's family is descended from this region, as well has my husband's. I don't think you will be sorry if you get her series. Now, I am not knowledgeable about her books that are non-historical, so I can't speak to those. If you love historical with romance thrown in, I don't see how you can go wrong with any of her novels.Product details

This was a great fifth book of this series. The adventure in it was so good. Very interesting history, the beginning of the war between the US and Mexico mid 1800's.
The romance was good. The book is definitely worth reading for those who enjoy the historical romance novels.
In 1846 in New Orleans, Kentuckian sword master Kerr Wallace is proud to have earned the honor of being recognized as a maitre d'armes after years of obsessive training. However, through all that hard work, he also has not lost his focus. He lives for one thing; to avenge the death of his brother killed by Pierre Rouillard who resides like a noble in Mexico.
When Pierre decides to bring his Creole fiancé Mademoiselle Sonia Bonneval to him in Vera Cruz, he hires Kerr to escort her; unaware of the man's deep grudge against him. Sonia surprises Kerr as she refuses to marry Pierre in a marriage arranged by her family. However, though attracted to her he ignores her wishes as he has two vows to complete. First he pledged to deliver her to Pierre safe and sound; second he pledged to his late sibling he will kill Pierre. The trek is dangerous, but the biggest peril awaits the travelers in Vera Cruz.
The latest Master at Arms historical romance (see CHALLENGE TO HONOR, GUARDED HEART, and ROGUE'S SALUTE) is terrific entry in a strong mid nineteenth century saga. The story line is refreshed by partially moving out of New Orleans (especially in Mexico) and by the Kentucky hero who has become a maitre d'armes for all the wrong reasons. Fans will relish how the French Creole Mademoiselle Sonia bursts his unshakable resolve with love as his objective turns from killing her fiancé to keeping her safe especially from her fiancé. GALLANT MATCH lives up to its title as an exciting pairing of two wonderful protagonists.

This is another example of the author's tired, desultory writing since the 2000s, nothing of the scope and imagination of her earlier work. The story is stuffed full of filler material. Lots of internal yada yada. JB heroines only mouth their desire for independence but don't really do much towards this end. I always hope that her heroines will somehow at some point show some spunk, but it never happens. Inevitably, after pages and pages of internal blah blah blah, they morph into damsels in distress, only too willing to let the hero rescue them. JB tries to update her writing so there's insta-lust, with the heroine practically panting for sex within minutes of meeting the hero...every few paragraphs there is mention of how the heroine tingles whenever she touches the hero, aches in her lower abdomen, rhapsodizes about the hero's body, muscles, etc. etc.- just filler galore. And, contrary to her older books, the author now includes the hero's POV, so you get duplicate pages of lust-filled imageries, another filler tactic. Yet another filler tactic is to have much ado about the observances of propriety. The story could have lopped off 100 pages and not lost anything. There is a bare bones subplot involving revenge by the hero and another with arms sale.
Overall, I find the Master at Arms series boring.
Loved the whole series. Highly recommend them all. Couldn't put them down. Great romances with history and wonderful characters both men and women.
Great book! Well written and a good story line. This is a great author and I've enjoyed everything I've read by her.
Book arrived earlier than stated and in excellent condition. Always enjoy finding and reading Jennifer Blake's novels. A very good read
